Which puppy service is right for me?
If your puppy is 8-15 weeks old, the Puppy Priorities Package is the right place to start. This package provides you with personal guidance on the most important puppy raising priorities for this age (socialization, potty training, nipping, and more).
If your pup is 4-6 months old and ready for nuts-and-bolts skills training, you may be interested in a Jump Start Program. During these programs, I do the heavy lifting with hands-on, direct training with your pup in your home, and teach you in transfer lessons. This starts with a kick-off lesson with you and your pup before purchasing a program.
I need help with puppy raising and hands-on training. What should I book?
If your puppy is 8-15 weeks old, book the Puppy Priorities Package. We'll customize and book a jump start program for you during the last lesson of this package.
I think my puppy is aggressive. What should I book?
If your young puppy is growling, snapping, or biting at people (more than puppy nipping), please book a Behavior Consult.
Will I need to train my dog after a jump start program?
Yes. I take care of the hard part of installing new skills so you don't have to start from scratch. You will still need to practice with your dog after the program to maintain the training, which is essential for long-term success.
My dog can be weird about unfamiliar people. Is a jump start program still a good fit?
No. Jump start programs are only for dogs who are perfectly happy with strangers in the home. If your dog is fearful of or reactive to strangers, please book a Behavior Consult.
Can I be home at the time of the jump start practice sessions with my dog?
Of course, it's your home! To minimize distractions, I ask that you are in a separate space from where I will be training your dog. Also, please make sure you and everyone in your family understands my COVID policies.
BEHAVIOR & MANNERS CONSULTS
My dog has both manners issues and fear/reactivity/aggression issues. Which consult should I book?
You should book a Behavior Consult. We will discuss all your concerns and prioritize together when to tackle them. I will likely recommend working on fearful, reactive, and aggressive behaviors first.
Are all initial consults remote?
Yes. All initial consults are held remotely via Zoom. We can move to in-person after that, or we can continue remotely if you prefer. For some fear, reactivity, and aggression cases, we may not move to in-person right away.
My dog's behavior issue isn't mentioned under any of the services. What should I book?
Please email email@example.com with a brief description of your dog's behaviors and your location. I'll advise you which service to book, or recommend a colleague if I can't assist.
SCHEDULING & OTHER DETAILS
How does scheduling work?
When you click on one of the "Book" buttons, you'll see real-time scheduling availability for the consult or first lesson. Just choose the appointment slot that works for you, answer a few registration questions, and pay by credit card to complete the booking.
For the Puppy Priorities Package, we will schedule the remaining 2 lessons at the initial consult of this package.
For Jump Start Programs, we will schedule the program at the kick-off lesson. To book a program, payment in full is required at the kick-off lesson.
For Behavior or Manners Consults, we will schedule lessons for the package you elect at the initial consult or shortly after.
Are jump start programs held on specific days?
Yes. The weekly practice lessons with your dog are either on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Transfer lessons with you are typically on Fridays or Saturdays.
What is your refund policy?
All purchases are non-refundable and non-transferable.
What if I need to reschedule?
You may reschedule any consult or lesson (including transfer lessons) by selecting a different appointment using the "Reschedule Appointment" button in your email confirmation at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment. If you notify me less than 48 hours in advance, or are not present at the time of the scheduled appointment, the consult or lesson is deemed forfeited and not refundable.
For jump start programs, rescheduling a practice session with your dog in the appropriate weekly timeframe is typically not possible due to the structured nature of these programs. If something urgent comes up, please email me right away and we will discuss options.
Do packages of lessons expire?
Yes. The Puppy Priorities Package must be completed within 30 days from purchase. Time is of the essence during this age, and I encourage completing this package even sooner than that.
For other private lessons, a package of 3 must be completed within 45 days from purchase. A package of 5 or more must be completed within 90 days from purchase.
Expired lessons that are not used in these timeframes are forfeited and not refundable.
What are your COVID policies?
Masks are required indoors. Details and other COVID policies are described here.
What is your in-person service area?
I travel to Chicago's north suburbs and northwest side neighborhoods listed at the bottom of every page of this website.
For jump start programs, a $25 per week travel fee may apply in some locations within my service area. This is discussed during the kick-off lesson, or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire.
For private lessons, I can occasionally accommodate surrounding areas for a $15 travel fee per lesson. This is discussed during the consult or you can email email@example.com to inquire. Please include your location and the service you are interested in.
